Tennis was popular in the 20th century both as an activity and a social event. Margaret Catchpole played in the garden of The Firs

There were plans to have tennis courts on an open space at the corner of what is now the B115 and A1129 when the Broomspath housing estate was in planning.

Tennis courts were built to the side of the village hall with a raised grass bank for viewing. in 1978 there was a planning application made for the erection of a pavilion to be shared by the Bowls Club and the Tennis Club
