The above image is of Stowupland’s pump house that stood on the village green for several decades. After being decommissioned by East Anglian water it continued to serve the village as a changing room for Stowupland Football teams, more than that we don’t have any details in our archives. If you can help please get in contact.
For our May 2024 meeting our group enjoyed a talk from Worlingworth’s Geoff Robinson. He shared with us the story of his village’s historic fire engine. It has now been repaired by the team of the BBC’s Repair Shop and although it will hopefully never be needed to put out fires the villagers will be putting it to good use. This story can be read in next months Updates.
Planning for Geoff’s visit got Neil Langridge (our main researcher) looking for facts about past fires in Stowupland (no we have never had our own fire engine!) . You can read some of these in our Newsletter 27, as well as his look back at Bramford Farm. You can also read Jerry Voden’s (our secretary) report on Sarah Doig’s talk to the group about ‘Angels & Demons’ as seen in Suffolk’s churches.
