Peart

  • William Peart was a pork butcher or grocer along Columbyne Road in the 1900’s , he was maybe the first retailer on the land  that later became M&M. In 1913 he was accused of stealing 260 pounds of lead.

soldier silhouetteIn the 1917 Stowupland Roll of Honour  3 Peart’s are named: Sapper Harold Peart of the R.E., A.S. Roland Peart of the R.N. and Prvt Wilfred Peart of the 4th Suffolk’s.  Harold (b. 1894) and Wilfred (b. 1896) are brothers whose family lived on The Green. Their parents were William (b.1870, a grocer) and Emma (b. 1874). Harold had been employed as a Tin Smith and Wilfred as an errand boy. 

Unfortunately no record could be found for Roland but by 1917 he had been discharged.
