Female Voices from Stowupland's Past
This project was prompted by a talk in March 2025 from Sarah Doig, to celebrate the voices of Suffolk women who have been largely forgotten.
Ada Kinch (1893 – 1984)
Head mistress of Stowupland primary School through the difficult years of the second world war,.
Although not born in Stowupland, Ena lived all her married life in the village.
Elsie Gyford
Owner of Gyford’s The Tailors in Saxham Street after her husband’s death in 1938 until she remarried in the 1950’s.
Zenta Leeks
Zenta was born in Latvia before WW2, but spent most of her married life in Stowupland.
Mary was brought up at Walnut Tree Farm and was a long serving member of the Parish Council (47 years).
