Fireworks

Fireworks and regulations pertaining to the sale of them was very different in the mid 20th century.

In the 1940s and 50’s, the shop we now know as M&Ms Butchers was owned by the Disney family. By all accounts it was a somewhat shambolically stocked but they sold ‘almost everything’ and what they didn’t have ‘ Alec would attempt to get’.

They sold bundles of fireworks, mainly ‘bamgers’ for 1d or 2d from a large bin, the bottom of which was thick with loose gunpowder!
