Jack fought in and survived WW1, but he nearly didnt. he had served with the Gloucesters and was severally wounded in Ypres, he was reported missing presumed killed and lay for 36 hours before being found. He returned hom with a severally crippled Left leg and being unable to resuem his former occupation as a butcher he took over as publican of the Crown Inn.
