Yarns from The Retreat

Set on the Village Green no one is sure why it was named The Retreat. Was it a to do with memories of a military campaign or more simply a place where working men might retreat to for a bit of relaxation?

In 2015, Peter Laflin shared some memories of the ‘Old’ Retreat. ‘His father was a regular and on Saturdays would take records and record player – previously locals had to make do with live music from the piano, apparently the change was welcomed. He went on to recall how his brother Paul and Mum, Delphine, enjoyed Vimto and crisps in the garden on Sunday evenings whilst his Dad was inside in charge of the record player.’
