Addison

Addison, Alfred George. MBE

“Alf” was awarded the MBE in 1962 for ‘public services’. He died in 1981 aged 70. From 1936 to 1972 he worked for ICI.

Amongst many other things he was a member of Stowupland Parish Council and its chair from 1952. He was chair of the managers of Stowupland Primary School. The inscription on the bench reads ‘In memory of Alfred George Addison in recognition of many years of public service.’

After his death a bench was erected on the Green (near M&M Butchers)

Brenda’s brother remembered that during the construction of the village hall it was necessary to put a drainage pipe in the ditch that ran alongside the main road. Brenda ‘volunteered’ to crawl through the pipe to check there were no blockages from excess cement!
