Creeting Road

Creeting Road can be seen to the north of Stowmarket station, for a short stretch running parallel to the railway line.
In 1904 Creeting Road ran, as it does today, from Stowupland Road at one end but then in a continuous sweep it went past Sheepcote Hall at the junction with Mill Street, and continued along to Creeting Home Farm becoming Mill Lane and so to the Creetings.
At one time Stowupland extended down to the bank of the River Gipping.
In the 1970s a pottery kiln that is thought to date back to Roman times was unearthed when work commenced on a housing estate along Creeting Road.
After being evaluated by the Suffolk archeological unit it was protected and reburied in sand, permitting the building of a house over the site.
