In 1851 his parents were given as John (b1813) and Sophia (b, 1815):Prentice (b.1835) is the oldest child, his siblings are George, Charles, Angelina, Matilda, Emma, Betsy and Eliza (b. 1848).

In 1861, Prentice is no longer living at home, but his parents are named as Richard (b1813) and Sophia (b, 1815) his siblings are Angelina, George, Eliza (b.1848), Charles (b. 1850) and Isaac (b 1851).

Prentice has married Mary Ann (b.1841) and they have a 4 year old child but Mary Ann died in 1863.
