Fruit
In the 1960’s a group of fruit growers got together to form Mid-Suffolk Growers Ltd, providing cold-storage units in Mill Street for fruit grown in the the Stowmarket district.
In 1979 the parish council had to deal with complaints about lorries parking outside the Mill Street premises and therefore blocking the flow of traffic. Police had had to be called and the road surface had had to be repaired. The company must have been successful as it was having new buildings and extensions to existing premises and was packing vegetables and fruit.
A planning application, which was approved, would make it possible for ‘all vehicles visiting the premises to park off the road and with 2 entrances and exits it was hoped that traffic complaints should cease. {Telstar 66: Nov 1979}
In December 1982 planning permission was sought for the former Mid-Suffolk growers site by East Anglian Tachograph and Accessories Centre of Bury St Edmunds. They sought permission for alterations and extension to buildings (with associated demolition work) and change of use of area adjacent to A45 slip road (A1120) all in association with use of site for repairs to, alterations and refurbishing of commercial vehicle bodies including tachograph service and installation.
