1864 desire by local farmers for the green to be enclosed ‘o account of the number of bad characters who are constantly attracted to the neighbourhood for the economical keep of donkeys etc.’
1895 seven travellers’ vans were on Stowupland green, comprising 20 children and as many adults. They used water for washing and other purposes from a pond which supplied eight cottages, while the filth about the place was most objectionable. It was resolved to serve notice upon the offenders to abate the nuisance,
In 1971 Hill Top Farm, between todays Stowupland and Stowmarket was prepared to provide a site for the travelling community .
In 1980 Stowupland Parish Council was opposed to plans for a gypsy site to be provided on Department of Transport land at the junction of the A1120 and the A45, {Bury Free Press: 05 December 1980}.
