In 1971 Hill Top Farm, between todays Stowupland and Stowmarket was prepared to provide a site for the travelling community .
In 1980 Stowupland Parish Council was opposed to plans for a gypsy site to be provided on Department of Transport land at the junction of the A1120 and the A45, {Bury Free Press: 05 December 1980}.
