Hollingsworth's History of Saxham Street
In his History of Stowmarket, The Ancient County of Town of Suffolk, first published in 1844 the Rev Hollingsworth considered the origin of the name Saxham Street. (p.61)
he wrote of a proprietor named Saxo who before the Conquest held a large possession of land in Stonham and Debenham, and may have resided there. Suggesting that Saxham Street was then a broad way bordered by trees and was Saxo’s route to his home.
He adds that Saxo held the land under St Aldred.
