1979, the first resident moved into her new flat

In 1979 the local press reported on the first resident, Mrs Eileen Stiff settling into her new home in Jubilee Court. The sheltered housing scheme consisted of 20 self-contained flats and 6 bungalows.  Each flat had its own kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and sitting room. Residents lived independently and according to the resident warden, Mrs Margaret Webb,   ‘doing their own cooking and washing, and buying their own food’. Mrs Webb hoped to organise coffee mornings , whist drives, bingo sessions and fund raising activities.

The complex also had a communal laundry room, guest room, lounge and kitchen. Each flat and bungalow had an intercom system linked to the warden’s office of flat. Although there was ‘no provision for getting down to the Health Centre in Stowmarket of the shopping centre’.
