Oak Tree Farmhouse, Saxham Street

Not to be confused with Oak Farm on The Green.

In the 1830’s a dwelling house here was owned by Robert Steggall and occupied by  Thomas Pyman and Samuel Stebbings. It was ‘certified as being set apart’ i.e. used by dissenters for religious worship.

In September 1940 an incendiary bomb landed in a ‘stubble barley field’ owned by the farm.

In the document designating ‘Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest (Town and Country Planning Act, 1947: Section 30) Oak Farm, Saxham Street was listed as a Grade III property, dating ‘from the 16th C. Two storeys and attic, gable w. Timber framed, plastered, thatch. Casements.’

In 1915 the occupier was Edgar Baker, a dealer in Pigs. He also farmed Willow Farm which was across the road.

6th May 1950 – 30.060 acres freehold bought by Harold Silney Marshall from exors of Edward James Warner.
