Stowupland Food Production Society

In June 1917 “ Reverend G.A.Bell brought some papers respecting the formation of a food production society for the village”. (extract from Neil Langridge  from the Stowupland School Managers Minute Book).

This was during the headmastership of Mr A. Bramhall.

In his unpublished manuscript ‘As I Remember It’ (held in the Archives of Stowmarket Congregational Church), the Rev Leslie Brame recalled that his father belonged to the SFPS, he described it as ‘consisting of farm workers and householders, and headed by a schoolteacher who could cope with the simple book-keeping involved’. In the early part of the year members would select their choice of vegetable seeds from the ‘Sutton Seeds’ catalogue.
