Jack Thurlow in WW1

Jack Thurlow (b 1897- d 1965) lived in Saxham Street. He was listed as a stockman’s helper on the 1911 census before enlisting in 1914. After the war he moved to Surrey where he worked as a painter and decorator and married Mable Bailey in 1935. His last job was working at Vickers Aircraft factory. ( my thanks to a relative for these photos and details of his life.

His grandfather was Job Thurlow, (1843 – 1917), he lived in Stonham Aspal, had 3 wives and 7 children

Job Isaac Thurlow (1867 – 1933), father of Jack Thurlow married Jane Smith (1871 – 1947). Job Isaac had been born in Stonham Aspal and in 1911 he was employed as a Labourer at the Stowmarket Explosives Works. Jane had been born in Stowmarket. By 1911 they had 5 children. The eldest was Kathleen (b1867) then came Jack (b1898).

Grace (b1900) and Edward (b.1901) can be seen in the pre-WW1 school photo. Their younger sister Evelyn (b.1903) does not appear to be on the photo,
