Village Competitions
In September 1984 Stowupland was presented with the Haverhill Meat Products Trophy for the Suffolk Best Kept Village Competition for larger villages.
The year Stowupland were winners of the Sovereign Chicken Trophy for the Mid Suffolk Best Kept Village. This photo arrived in our archives in 2023 but we don’t know the year it was taken. The location is the junction of the A1120 and B1115 opposite the Co-op. We think to the right of the speaker is local Councillor and farmer Roger Carter and to the left Tom Salmon. In 2006 Stowupland entered the Suffolk Association of Local Councils competition for Suffolk Village of the Year. Having successfully completed the County round they were notified they were being put forward to the final round.
£60.00 was spent on bulbs and wildflower (seeds?) which were planted near the pond adjacent to The Retreat, a tradition that Stowupland Biodiversity Group in 2022 is building on.
