Stowupland Community Council
In the 1960’s Community Councils were set up to work alongside Parish Councils, their focus was village social life.
At a meeting in 1965 a decision was made to form the Stowupland Community Council. The aim was to provide a link between the parish council and other village organisations.
The chair of Stowupland Community Council was Fred Welham, vice chair was Sidney Scarlett and hon.sec K.E. Hawkins. A local lotteryor a ‘Stowupland Ernie’ was started to raise funds. It was hoped that all adults would buy a 1 shilling ticket every week, the money would be collected by volunteers. This was pre-decimilasation so 5p in new money.
At prsent it is unclear how successful Ernie was, but the council did host several Community Weeks.
In 1970 Stowupland Community Council was merged with the Village Hall committee.
