Cobbold

In 1828 John Cobbold owned land of which 147 ½ acres were arable.

1892 John Dupois Cobbold – messuage of orchard & tenement with buildings, orchard & garden quit rent of 7d (possibly from sale of Tyrells estate}

In 1897 Samuel Cobbold was occupier of Grange Farm  then in 1921 he buys it from Samuel Holland.

Kellys 1916 names Samuel Cobbold as farmer at Grange Farm.

In 1913 a vagrant named Arthur Brundish was arrested and charged with ‘wandering abroad and sleeping in a straw stack’ at Stowupland. Giving evidence PC Amos Lloyd described going Doles farm, which was occupied by Mr S. Cobbold’ where he found Mr Brundish sleeping rough .

soldier silhouetteIn 1917 Prvt Samuel Cobbold is named in the Stowupland Roll of Honour, he is discharged.

In 1918 Samuel bought the freehold of Saxham Cottage and the double cottage that was then its next door neighbour (a house has since been built between the 2 properties).

Samuel James Cobbold was born in Stowupland in 1890.

Samuel james Cobbold

Frederick Stanley Cobbold (1903 to 1981). He was born in Stowupland where he worked on his father’s farm. He began farming on Martins Farm, Earl Stonham in 1926. In 1933 he moved to Bays Farm (later Fenn Farm as well). In later life he farmed in partnership with his sons.

During WW2 he was an air raid warden and member of the Home Guard.

He was married to Norah and father to Sylvia, Winifred, Dorothy, Samuel and Ralph.
