Colmans
In the records there are various references to Coes, Colemans, Coemans, Colmans Croft, Colman Farm, Curtays until we can confidentally locate these areas all will be listed here.
Colmans is assocated with the Quardlines of the 18th and 19th century, being part of the copyhold land and tenements held by trustees for the ‘use of the parish of Stowupland’.
15th century
In the 1480 will of Robert Cake of Stowmarket the tenements of Colmanys and Gullys are mentioned.These 2 tenements are mentioned . {SLHG/ECA/wills}

17th century
1629 – a house & 7 acres called Colmans Croft, & 1 rood called Churchways – from Earl Stonhame Court Rolls
1655- Robert Kerrington, relative of Richard Tollemerch had a principal tenement in Colmans
18th century
1716 Thomas Sheldrake owns Stowupland Town Farm on Saxham Street and he also owns 18 acres of COLMANS.
The road to Earl Stonham is to the South. To the north are lands of Thomas Good & Joseph Rodwell, to the east land of John Bird, to the west is Earl Stonham Town Ground.
19th century
1827 (Terrier) 3 pieces of land called Coemans containing 18 acres more or less, abutting onto the road to Earl Stonham on the South, Earl Stonham Townlands on the west on late Mr Collets lands on the North and Mr Samuel Birds lands on the east late in the occupation of John Roper and now of John Stedman.
– the town meadow containing 3 acres more or less abutting on the road to Mendelsham on the North on the lands late of John Pyman and now of Richard Dalton Esquire to the West and south and late on Mr I. B.Tailer’s lands and now of Charles Rayner Freeman on the East and formerly in the occuaption of the said John Roper.
1834 – lands etc belonging to the Poor of Stowupland.
– A farm consisting of a tenement Barn, stable, and cowhouse with 7 peices of land containing 22 acres more or less late in the occupation of William Wilden deceased and now of Martha Wilden his widow at the yearly rent of 35 pounds per annum.
– a tenement also 3 pieces of land called Colmans containing 18 acres more or less see 1827 above.
– also the Town Meadow containing 3 acres abutting on the road from Stowmarket to Debenham …on the north on the lands belonging to… and now in the occupation of John Boby on the West, late of M J.B Tailor and now C.R. Freeman on the East and south etc…. yearly rent of 30 pounds.
1844 – ‘Part of Poor estate ‘a cottage & piece of land called Colemans 1.8 acres and the Town meadow 3 acres lat at £30.00 per annum
