Meakings

The register of baptisms at Stowmarket Baptist Church at the start of the 19th century gives us names of 9 children for Abraham and Mary Meakin of Stowupland.

Isaac (1799), Jacob (1804), James (1807), Robert (1805), Betty (1809), Eliza (1813), Hannah (1810), Moses (1815) and Patient (1801).

George Meakings (known as Blooney) farmed at the Firs, Stowupland. He was one of the sons of James (d 1905) and Annie Meakings (d 1928) from Creeting St Peter.

Kellys Directories of 1912 and 1916: Geo Meakings farmer , The Firs. In 1937 Geo Meakings is named as a farmer & rate collector.

Robert Meakings was one of three sons of a Robert Meakings (He had served in WW1 and lived at No * Council  Houses, Creeting St Peter, next door to his parents James and Annie), who was a son of James and Annie Meakings from Creeting St Peter. Robert was the younger of three brothers. The eldest Stanley who served in the Royal Navy, then Harold. Robert lived in Mill Street and worked at O.G. Barnard Garage in Stowmarket.

He had 3 sisters, Gertrude, Sybil and Audry.

Emily was the youngest child of James and Annie Meakings, she was know as Mrs Ninety and also lived in Mill Street.
