Merecroft
The location of Merecroft is currently unknon. Mere maybe marshy land or it could be a boundary.
Robert Boby (admission 7/11/1893) -All that Toft & 12 acres of land & pasture & woodground called Havers in Saxton & Thorney & two acres & one rood of land in Mere Croft in Thorney & two pieces of land containing one acre & a half and one piece of land lying near the procession way between the lands late of Thomas Goodwin esq called Little Croft Field in the part of the North East & the meadow belonging to the inhabitants of Thorney towards the Southeast one head thereof abutting on the meadow late of John Goddard called Sudneys towards the North east & the other head thereupon Bury Way towards the South West which said hereditament was copyhold of the said manor of Thorney Hall to which premises John Boby deceased was admitted.{Notes made by Ena Carter from 1893 rentals of Thorney Hall Manor}
Lower Bury Way (tm 108) and Upper Bury Way (tm 109) are to the north east of Gipping Farm along Gipping Lane. In the 1840 apportionments John Boby was the land owner and occupier. Possibly along a footpath from Stowupland Town Farm (tm 90) across to Gipping Lane.
Is this a reference to Stowupland Town Meadow (tm 337) or more likely a meadow belonging to Stowupland Town farm (tm 90 etc)
From the Rental of Thorney Hall Manor 1618 from manorial documents in Hadleigh Archive. {Neil Langridge}.
