Skowers Farm
Something of a mystery at present, various spellings are found.
A document dated Oct 9th 1790 suggsets Skowens fam has something to do with John Newsted and Coopers barn in Saxham Street. Could this be Joseph S. Kowen father of Mary Roper (Mary died 1784) relating to property in Hatch Croft.
There is also mention in 1782 – relating to Bramford Farm of a lease from Nathaniel Acton of Bramford, esq, to Joseph Skowen Roper of Stowupland, farmer
Thorney Hall Rental 1763 – 1767
-refers to Elizabeth Bird for lands in occupation of James Pyman and was of Newstead (this name was a later addition: copyhold rent- 0s 1d.
Thomas Roper in right of his wife late Skower for lands in the occupation of……. (left blank): copyhold rent- 1s 10d.
Timothy Forster for lands occupied by Robert Scowen – freehold rent 11s 8d.
