Documents suggest an 11th century  church on or near th site of todays St Peters and St Marys was dedicated to St Peter or to St Peter and St Paul.

1406: Robert Mounteney left 5 marks to the warden of the church of Stowmarket for the sustenation and maintenance of the place and aisle where my father lies.( Robert Mounteney was clerk of Ginge Mounteney (Montnessing, Essex}.

1437: 20s to the reparation of ‘le hele’ of St John (John Harleston, vicar)

1443: John Ky of Thorney bequeathed 10s to the necessary work of the church.

1443; Robert Kent’s will requested he be buried in the porch newly built to the N side of St Peter of Stowmarket.

1446: 40s from Marion Fenkele of Gipping, Newton to be buried in the church of St Peter ‘Stowe’ next to the grave of JohnFenkele (husband of testator), or outside the church, near the window which my hisband latley made with glass; to the use of the church of Stowe Peter, in repairing the aisle (le heele’) of St Mary there.

1452: William Kyng of Thorney 10s to a new parclose (screen) in the said church to be made about the chapel and altar of St John the Baptist. with the advice and discretion of parishoners and attorneys or to be dieposed in the proper fitting of the same altar.

1455: Nicholas Colman 10 marks to the making of the image of St Paul, with a tabernacle of the same in the smae church.

1459: John Boteler, vicar 20s to the new organs of the said church.

1461/2 William Schelton, 6s 8d to the buying of a new basin for the lamp burning in the chancel. 26s and 8d to the amending of the paving (pavimentu) in the aisle of St John the Baptiste.

1475: John Bradmere, 6s 8d to the candlebeam in the chapel of St Mary

1475: John Buxton, 6s 8d to the candlebeam of Blessed Mary.

1500: Robert Myles, 10s to the reparation of the benches.

1504: John Baldry, 3s 4d to the reparation of the bells.
