As you read this we have enjoyed our March meeting when we welcomed Elspeth Rushbrook . She shared her research about a lady who retired to her home village of Great Ashfield after having survived not just the sinking of the Titanic but also the sinking of her sister ship the Britannic. You will have to wait for a later newsletter for more on that.

In last month’s Latest News 4 I mentioned Air Vice Marshall Hoad who spent a number of years in Saxham Street. On- going research has confirmed at least one other Saxham Street resident who also served in the RAF.
Our war memorial names a Wilfred Scarlett and until recently we were unsure whether or not he was related to the Sidney Scarlett who ran Gyford’s, The Tailors in the mid 20th century. We now know that they were brothers but sadly at the age of 23 the plane that Wilfred was in crashed over the Netherlands. Wilfred is buried in an Amsterdam cemetery.
