Wilfred Charles Scarlett (1918 -1942)

Wilfred was Sidney Scarlett’s older brother.

He was born at the end of WW1 on 13/11/1918 and lived in a thatched cottage on Saxham street, Stowupland. he had 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

His parents were William Charles Scarlett and Ethel Kate Chaplin.

Ethel’s parents were from Coggeshall in Essex. 

Wilfred’s paternal grandfather was George Joshua Scarlett. Although originally  from Tuddenham  he spent most of his working life at Stowupland Hall. His paternal grandmother was Julia Forsdike.

We don’t know much about Wilfred’s life other then that in 1942, the age of 23 he married Moreen Ing in Christchurch, Hampshire. Just a few weeks later he was a flight engineer on a Short Stirling bomber out of Lakenheath.

The plane crashed over the Netherlands on June 30th 1942 killing all the crew. Wilfred is buried in a cemetery in Amsterdam but commemorated is on the Stowupland War memorial. Read more about The loss of flight BF310
