Latest Update 31

In June, SLHG hosted a SLHC Focus On Day. The last time members of the SLHC had been invited to learn more about Stowupland had been 40 years previously. We shared some of our knowledge about Jack and Ena Carter, the Rev Hollingsworth, Telstar’s history, and took our guests for a walk around Thorney Green so they could learn about its past and see how it is looked after today. The day finished with tea and cake, which has become a tradional ending for SLHC meetings. We are grateful to Ladybird Ladies for the sumptious cakes and to all volunteers who came along to support and helped to make it an enjoyable day.

Read our June 2025 newsletter for Telstar or listen to our secretary’s review of Katie Howson’s muscial tour of some local pubs. One of the pub singers that Katie and her husband had recorded lived in Stowupland and local people still remember that Tom Willaims used to cut hair in an old shed along Gipping Road. It is always good when a talk brings back memories of past times.
