Eating and drinking

Before the 1930 boundary changes Stowupland had a choice of s  several public houses for drinking but not many for eating. Today we count ourselves lucky to have a choice of two, Crown Inn and The Retreat, both of whom serve meals and drink.

Stowmarket Notebook July 25, 1947

Since this article was printed in 1947 the original Retreat has been demolished and a new hostelry built, whilst the face of The Crown is probably still recognisable but it too has been extended and modernised.

As well as our pubs members can enjoy a tipple at the Sports & Social Club.

For several decades we have had a Fish & Chip shop (though once there were 2), we had a cafe (Nutshells) now the church’s provide an opportunity for local people to enjoy a morning cuppa a couple of mornings a month. We have a chinese take-away and coffee and sandwiches from the local supermarket. ( As of 2024)
