Details taken from notes made by Ena Carter on the surrender of land to Thorney Hall Manor.

General court or Thorney Hall Manor was held on 16th Nov 1768 when Thomas Turner the elder, Thomas Turner his son, William Turner his son, John Wright Boby, John Boby, Joseph Scowen Roper & the Rev John Freeman were admitted as trustees for the Quardlines, being copyhold land and tenements of this manor for the use of the parish of Stowupland comprising 9 separate pieces by estimation 10 acres and one piece called Colmans containing 2 acres & 1 rood.

On 20th November 1856, ‘whereas the said trustees have all long since been dead without either of them surrendered the said premises to new or other trustees.’ It is noted that John Wright Boby was last to die and in his will of 1818 he named his cousins Robert and John Boby as executors. Under this will the Quardlines were surrendered on the authority of numerous local notable gentlemen.
