Stowupland Sports and Social Club

In The Stowupland Sports and Social Club the early days.  Jerry Voden explains how plans for the first SSSC were drawn up by the Group of 4 one evening  in the Retreat,on the back of a beer mat and came to fruition in 1990.

The SSSC embraced village cricket, football and tennis. Whilst each activity has its own page matters relating to the shared interests within SSSC will be found here. Many other sporting activities take place in the village but were not involved in the SSSC but if we have any documentation in our archives then using the search tool will find them, e.g. bowls.

Plans were made in the 1980s to build an extension to the rear of Stowupland Village Hall. It is credit to all involved that the project was completed but it was not without its problems. Raising sufficient funds to go ahead was just one of the problems, agreement over use of the facilities by the social members ,footballers, cricket & tennis players was to be another.
