Forsdike or Forsdyke

Whether the Forsdikes and Forsdykes were branches of the same family just with different spellings or had totally separate origins we do not know, All will be listed here.

In 1928 George Forsdike was a service tenant, paying 2s a week at Mill Street Farm

1928 the funeral of Emma Forsdike, wife of Mr Frederick Forsdike of Star Cottage.

See also Shelleys, Saxham Street. Date unsure but early 20th century when  ‘Mi’ Forsdyke lived there but after the death of her husband Mrs Forsdyke moved to Mill Street to live with her daughter Mrs Cuthbert.

Kellys 1916 names Arthur J Forsdyke  of the Crown P.H, Stowupland.

Arthur  J Forsdike was reported in the late 1940s to be a Japanese prisoner of war , We have no other details about him.

We do know that Charles Housego was also a Japanese POW, he died in 1943 and was buried in Thailand as was Walter John Thorpe. Charles was a private in the 5th Battalion Suffolks, whilst Walter was a private in the 4th Suffolks. They had both been captured in Singapore in February 1942.

Arthur Edward Forsdyke

April 1934, the death of Arthur Forsdyke of Myrtle Cottage was reported at the age of 53.

Andrew Charles Forsdyke

1934 the death was reported of A.C. Forsdyke from Chapel Lane.

Julia Forsdike (1850 – 1913) was Sidney Scarlett’s grandmother, she was married to George Joshua Scarlett  . . They were both natives of Tuddenham but by the 1881 census they were living in Stowupland. Julia’s husband George worked for Mr H.F. Harwood at Stowupland Hall

soldier silhouetteThere are 4 Forsdicks and 2 Forsdikes named in the 1917 Stowupland Roll of Honour.  Cyril, George   Harry (Prvt Machine Gun Corp) and Prvt Godfrey of the A.S.C who was wounded. The 2 Forsdikes named were Sergt George and Prvt Frederick both of the Suffolk Regt. Prvt Frederick was reported wounded in 1917.
