Sidney Scarlett's Story
Sidney was brought up in a small thatched cottage next door ot Saxham Cottage. His parents were William Charles Scarlett and Ethel Kate Chaplin
.
His paternal grandparents wer eWilfred’s George Joshua Scarlett (from Tuddenham) and Julia Forsdike.
Sidney was one of ? children – Wilfred chafels, Russell (3rd son) Rufus roundsman
Wilfred Charles Scarlett
(b 13 Nov 1919 d 30 June 1942)
Wilfred was Sidney’s older brother. He joined the RAF at the start of WW2 and in 1942 he was a flight engineer on the Stirling Bomber BF310 which was shot down over the Ijsselmeer killing all those on board.
When Elsie Gyford remarried in the 1950s, Sidney with his wife moved into Saxham Cottage and continued running the shop. see also Gyford’s and Scarlett’s
