Stannard

Charles and Mary Stannard

In 1884 they were living in Thwaite St George where Albert William was born

By 1897 when Herbert is born they are living in Saxham Street, Stowupland.

Albert and Herbert were killed in WW1 and are named on Stowupland’s WW1 memorial.  Herbert was buried in Flanders, Albert William in Gaza.

Fanny Wilden –  married a Stannard. She was paternal grandmother to local resident Margaret Rose to whom we are grateful for showing her knowledge of the Wilden and Stannard families.  Fanny was the sister of Frederick Wilden who was also killed in WW1 he is buried in Cherbourg. ‘Fanny lived in Columbine Close and used to deliver babies and layout the diseased before the NHS began, she was a self-taught herbalist’ (shared by email August 2025).

We have the names of 3 Stannards from 1917.  Albert and Herbert were both killed in action. A Prvt Frederick is the only one named on the 1917 Roll of Honour.
