March is Women’s History Month, at SLHG committee meeting we got thinking about local ladies who had played important roles in our village, such as Ena Carter, Ada Kinch and Mary Bloom. Without Ena’s hard work researching Stowupland’s local history would be a lot more time consuming, SLHG is extremely grateful for the foundations she laid down for us. Ada Kinch was an inspirational head teacher for our local children, especially those facing the uncertainty of war time. Mary Bloom served on our local council for over 40 years.

Following our talk on Medieval carpentry by Rick Lewis it seemed appropriate for Neil Langridge to revisit his research into the conversion of Barn Cottages from an agricultural building into habitable homes.

If you don’t receive Stowupland’s Telstar you can read SLGH’s newsletter on our newsletter page, or listen to Jerry’s reviews of the talks given at our monthly meetings in Jerry’s Jabbas.
