Catchpole family
Below are a few tasters of Margaret Catchpole’s life and family. More details can be found at Margaret, and her parents, or their home, Belvedere.
Charles and Emma were Margaret Catchpole’s parents. We possibly have photos of their wedding in 1896. Margaret and her sister Ivy lived all their life in Stowupland. Margaret was born in 1900.

On 29th March 1829, Elizabeth Catchpole (b. 1822) married Robert Burch (Victualler of the Crown Inn), they had one son Samuel. Samuel was baptised on 10th November 1830. He sadly died on 23th August, 1853 at the age of 22. He was buried in Holy Trinity Graveyard.

Since 1793 Belvedere was family home to several generations of Catchpoles, but as children grew up and married they made their homes in other places. The Stowupland Church warden accounts of 1803 recorded expenses of 6s for taking down the Catchpole cottage in 1818 {NL retrieved -SRO FB215/E2/1}.
On March 29th 1829 Elizabeth Catchpole (b. 1822) married Robert Burch (b. 1796 in Stowupland). The following year their only son Samuel Burch was born. By the time of Samuel’s baptism in 1830 Robert was listed as a ‘Victualler at the Crown Public House‘.
Elizabeth was the eldest child of Stephen and Rachel Catchpole (see above), so would have been the first child to be born at the house we know today as Belvedere. Two years after Samuel’s death, Elizabeth’s father Stephen died. Her mother lived until 1888.
