Do you recognise this view of Stowupland Primary School. Over the century and a half since our Elementary school was first built it has needed many extensions to accommodate the increasing number of local children.
We are settling into our new venue at the meeting room of the URC Chapel. We still meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30 p.m. Members have just renewed their annual membership but we welcome new members or visitors can come along to any of our sessions, for just £5.00.
Read our latest newsletters or listen to Jerry’s Jabbas to find out more about recent talks the group has listened to and updates on members research into Stowupland’s past.
In December’s Telstar Jerry wrote about our October meeting when Dr Mike Walker shared his research into the 1173 siege of Haughley Castle and the subsequent battle at Fornham. Sandra shared a report of criminal activity she had uncovered relating to a 19th century occupant of Myrtle Cottage.
In January’s Telstar the theme of Criminal activity continued when Neil and Sandra gave another of their talks on Stowupland’s Stories. Neil started the evening of with an incident from the 14th century. Many of the incidetns can be read in the webpages misdeeds.
Whilst the name Robinson came up to do with crimes in the village, we also shared a press story about Edmond Robinson and his family who lived and worked in the village during the 19th century and into the 20th century.
We have names and some family details of several Robinsons from the 18th century. William was Edmund’s father.
